The island of Rügen is situated on the North Sea with 976km2 and 74.000 inhabitants. With a small population, this tranquil island is the ideal place to relax. It offers stunning scenery with long coastal and sandy beaches. There are many attractions, like the Caza Granitz Castle (1836), the Spyker Castle (1570) and the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt Tower (1877), which can all be visited on a one-day excursion. This maritime climate offers great possibilities for those who wish to go surfing, bicycling, hiking and horse back riding. This is a great way to see the landscape and learn about thousands of years of history. Another great way to explore is on the train called the 'Rasender Roland,' which goes from Putbus to Binz. For a nearby outing, one must not miss Hiddendee Island or the numerous peninsulas – for example, Jasmund with its famous Creta Coast. To the North of Rügen, you will find Putgarten (also known as Kap Arkona), where you can only arrive by foot. Do not miss the many festivities in Rügenhof. There are literally countless opportunities to explore this amazing Island.
