shells The Pasta Museum

How funny! A museum about pasta in the country of pasta… It might look seem like a bad joke, but where better to have a museum of pasta than in Italy? And it’s the only one in the world…

This museum is situated on the slopes of Quirinal Hill (one of the Seven Hills) to the North East of Rome and was established in 1993. The museum consists of eleven rooms where the history of this universally known food is explained. You will also find every type of tool that has been used through the ages to make pasta, since the first mill stone and kneading, to more modern techniques.

We’d say that when you leave the museum, you will know all the tricks of the trade; all the cooking techniques, how to bake it, how to prepare it and how to let it stand…

Without doubt, a great opportunity to learn from the Italian maestros…

bruchetta Enjoy the Food in Rome

If you are one of the people who think the Italians only eat Pizza and Pasta, then you are totally wrong. Of course, these dishes are very common in Italy and especially in its capital,  and they are of course very good. However, there are a lot of other Italian delicacies. ‘Coda alla vaccianara’ for example is very famous: calf’s tail cooked in wine with tomatoes and peppers. ‘Abbacchio alla scottadito’; lamb chops simply flavoured with salt and pepper, eaten by hand, is another favourite. This last example is typical of Roman food even though you might find it in other areas of the country. So there you have it; pizza and pasta are not Italy’s only tasty creations.

Some say that ‘Caprese’ is the national dish of Italy. This tasty dish is made of tomato and mozzarella with oil and basil. Very scrumptious! It is called the national dish because of its colour (red, white and green) which resembles the Italian flag. This famous dish is even well known in Germany. As is the much loved ‘Bruschette’; roasted bread with garlic and oil, quite often eaten with tomatoes.

So you should definitely come to Rome and try the great food in one of the many restaurants

 Ristoro degli Angeli

Situated in Via Orlando, right in the heart of the popular Garbatella district, the Ristoro delgi Angeli restaurant was opened in 1910 to welcome the sailors that were stopping over in Rome.

This restaurant is perfect for those who are tired of eating pizza and pasta as the menu of Moroccan chef, Marco, combines traditional Roman food with innovative ideas. Try the hake fillet a la curry or the delicious vegetarian ‘meatballs’ a la tzatziki. The menu changes every two weeks and there are two new specials every day. The quality of the food and the location is formidable and most of the ingredients are organic. Another strong point of the restaurant is its wine list; very good even if a little expensive.

Furthermore, the two owners have really set the scene. A refined atmosphere and an irreproachable service add to the delicious food. The must: the cheese board accompanied by jam or honey.

Ivo, who reads poems to the clients during the evenings, adds to the fabulous atmosphere; love poems from Pablo Neruda, Garcia Lorca, Akhmet and Alda Merini are some of his favourite, so make sure to take your love bird along.
