Locatiebeschrijving
Motril is a city with 56,000 inhabitants in Southern Andalucía; about 70km south of Granada, 100km from Eastern Malaga and very close to the Costa del Sol. Motril is situated on the foot hills of the Sierra de Lújar Mountain range and benefits from a very agreeable climate all year round. The city has an attractive artistic patrimony, thanks to the coexistence of the Arab and Spanish civilizations. The Incarnation Church was built over the old principal mosque; it is a “mudéjar” work from the 16th century. Other buildings that stand out are the baroque style “Ayuntamiento” (city hall), the Virgin de la Cabeza Sanctuary, the baroque style “patrona de la Villa” which was constructed over King Boabdil of Motril´s mother’s house with amazing views. You can also enjoy the sea at La Joya, Poniente and Carchuna. The port of Motril has an important fishing industry, as well as commercial industry (sugar cane) and sports. If you enjoy your visit and decide to stay in Andalucía a bit longer, you will discover one of the most original and exotic provinces of Spain. There is a wide variety of landscapes: from the plains to the summit of the Sierra Nevada and from the arid hills to the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. There are countless sights for tourists to visit, one of the most important being the Alhambra in Granada (less than one hour away.) A bit further away, you will find Seville with her Giralda and the Alcázar. You will discover cities such as Cordoba, Cadiz, Ronda or Huelva and you will pass through characteristic small Andalusia towns filled with white washed houses.
