The Tyrolese village of Fügen spreads across the front portion of the Zillertal Valley, and resides in the meadows among the Rischy and Ziller Rivers. With almost 3.500 inhabitants, Fügen is the principal centre of the valley and boasts about the beautiful historical centre with typical Tyrolese houses and, especially, the splendid 17th century baroque castle. The village is immersed in nature and surrounded by the rural localities of Gagering and Kapfling. It offers all of the comforts of a small city and at the same time the possibility to have direct contact with nature. In summer and winter Fügen is one of four tourist centres in the valley, but in winter it is especially sought after by skiers thanks to the Hochfügen and Spieljoch trails. The town is located at an altitude of 550 meters, and is surrounded by mountains. Around Fügen there are 145 km of trails that reach 2.500 meters, with 20 mechanical lifts. An event not to be missed is the "international rope race," which takes place every year in Fügen to close the winter season. More than 100 teams from all over the world, comprised of two men and a woman tied together with a 25 meter rope face up in this competition. Amusement and celebration are insured!
