Locatiebeschrijving

Tarascon is a small town on the rights side of the river Rhône in the south of France. The nearest most populated towns are Arles and Avignon located 20 km away and the town is situated between the province hills and the Mediterranean coast. The nearby by regions invite you to partake in trips to discover new places. Tarascon is also known as “the Gateway to the Alps” with a mountain range of chalky rock in the Southern Province. The town is well known for its dragon legends as the story goes that Saint Marcha built the city so that its inhabitants could fight against the dragon. After the dragon devoured travelers along the river bank. An expression of cultural identity in the south of France is bullfighting and other games. These acts are the heritage of a culture full of impulsive passion. You should also visit the statue of Goya outside Tarascon who was well known and feared in the bullfighting rings. The surrounding areas of Tarascon offer walking, climbing, mountain biking and horse riding. La Montagnette, the Alps and Carmague offer wonderful varied scenery. Since the town is located in the heart of a region full of history, it’s great point to get to other well known places. Les-Baux-de-Provence, Saint-Rémy, Glanum and Le-Pont-du-Gard are only some of them. Surrounding the tomb and church of La Santa Martha, many monasteries were built throughout the centuries which merit a visit. Also you should visit the castle of king René. This enormous monument is one of the most beautiful medieval castles in France.
