Location Description
Girona, the city of four rivers, enjoys of a privileged situation, between the Pyrenees and the Costa Brava. Girona is situated North of Catalunya, between Barcelona and the French border, only 100km from Barcelona. The historic centre of Girona is bursting with medieval constructions, as well as Roman, Arab and Jewish buildings. All of which contribute to a very special atmosphere, in between the past and the present. The cathedral of Girona has the largest gothic nave in the world, constructed between the 11th and 17th centuries. From the monumental stairs of the cathedral, you can reach the heart of the city and walk through a labyrinth of narrow roads in the old part of town. After that, you can head to the arcades of the Rambla de la Libertat. The areas surrounding Girona are also very interesting. You can visit the Costa Brava, and if you travel between June and September, you will surely take a swim, just remember, there are many other things to do. You can discover fishing ports such as Cadaques, where Dali lived, or Calella de Palafrugell, typical Mediterranean towns such as l'Escala, Palamos or Sant Feliu de Guixols. The Costa Brava is full of places like the Aiguamolls Natural Park or Cap de Creus, the ciudadela de Roses, the Greek and Roman ruins of Empuries, or the medieval city of Pals et Peratallada. One must visit the historic centre of Tossa de Mar and the botanical gardens of Blanes and Lloret de Mar. Finally, you cannot miss a visit to the Dali Museum in Figueres. Installed in the old municipal theatre of the city, conceived and supplied by Dali himself. The museum brings together works from the impressionist, fauvists and surrealist periods of the Catalan painter. It is well worth the visit.
