Location Description

Jávea (or Xàbia) is a coastal town in the Mediterranean located along the Costa Blanca, in the province of Alicante, Spain. The town’s population is now approximately 28500 however this figure rises with the amount of tourists visiting in the summer. Although a small town, Jávea is well connected to the rest of Spain has it has great roads between regional capitals and both Alicante and Valencia airports are just over an hour’s drive away. There are regular and direct coach links to Alicante and Valencia as well as a daily service to Madrid. The nearest rail station is at Gata de Gorgos, about 10 km inland, with a regular service to Alicante. The town is split into 3 areas: the Old town, the Port and the Arenal each offering something different for tourists. The old town has the impressive Church of Sant Bartolomé. In addition to this is the modern municipal market, popular with locals and tourists for its fresh fruit and vegetables, fish and local meat. The port Aduanas del Mar offers a wide range of restaurants, bars and the wonderful marina but the focal point here is the church of Nuestra Señora. Arenal is the bust sandy beach area flanked with a promenade of shops, bars and restaurants and on the beach it is not difficult to find many sand artists creating all sorts of sculptures. The town's market day is on Thursdays, except when there is a local or national holiday. There are three main fiestas: the Fogueres de San Juan (June 24rd). The Moros y Cristianos (July). The Virgen de Loreto (September 8th) at the port. A large range of sports and hobby activities are catered for in the area, including cycling, diving, fishing, golf, horse-riding, mountain-biking, bowls, sailing, trekking.
