Location Description
On the shores of the Amstel River and surrounded by numerous Canals, Ámsterdam, the Venice of the North, is without a doubt one of the most enchanting cities in Europe with around 7000 houses declared historic monuments. Amsterdam has a very centric position in Northern Europe, close to Belgium, Germany, and even France and Denmark. The capital of the Netherlands is a city of art where one can contemplate the works of great Flamenco painters (Vermeer, Rembrandt) in the Rijksmuseum (Royal Museum), the most famous museum of the city. Furthermore, one can visit the Van Gogh Museum, the Rembrant House Museum, and the House of Anne Frank where she wrote her famous diary. You can take pleasure in the incomparable charm of the city, moving around by bicycle or on foot, viewing the canals and XVII century houses. One can even go to the Port of Amsterdam, one of the most important in the world. After visiting the historic centre, one must pass through the red light district with its showcases, where women sell their charisma. If you would like a rest, the Vondelpark awaits you: it is an immense park of 48ha in the heart of the city. During the summer there are free concerts and theatre to enjoy. If you enjoy your trip and decide to stay in the Netherlands longer, head towards the North, to Volendam Port, 22km from Amsterdam. It is a truly animated post card of the area with its tulips, mills, and sailors in traditional wooden shoes. Furthermore, one must not forget to visit the cheese market in Alkmaar.
