Location Description
Arezzo is located in one of the nicest areas of Tuscany, surrounded with valleys, hills and forests; in this province are the large valleys that have made the Tuscan territory famous throughout the world. During the medieval period Arezzo experienced moments of great wealth, in which elegant palaces and majestic churches were built. However the history of the city also faced moments of extreme declivity, due to the major economic power of the surrounding cities, such as Florence and Siena. Arezzo's historical centre deserves an attentive visit, during which visitors can discover the palaces, the characteristic architectural aspects and the suggestive atmosphere. The most important monuments are: San Francesco Church (century XIII), constructed in Gothic style; Badia Church (century XIII), constructed by the Benedictine friars; the ex-monastery with its elegant cloister (century XV.) One must not miss the principal street of Arezzo, el Corso, which preserves the most beautiful palaces of the city, the characteristic corners, towers and the monuments, as well as very nice shops and restaurants for any occasion. The artistic beauty, the landscape, as well as festivals and traditional representations (the Giostra del Saracino, the Polifonico and the Antiquities Fair, every first Sunday of the month) make Arezzo a destination of undoubted interest for all travellers.
