Property Description

Agricultural and tourist estate situated in an area that is easily reached from other tourist sights well-known around the world for their beauty and artistic riches. The apartment is located on the hill in front of San Gimignano, on the old dirt roadway which was the access to the town, from which you can enjoy marvelous views of the towers and splendid country of Tuscany. San Gimignano, the symbolic city of the middle ages and rich in archeological remains, worldwide patrimony to humanity is only 3km away. The apartment is situated in a central location from where you can easily access other principal cities of art and tourist interest in Tuscany, such as Florence (40 km), Siena and Voltaire (30 km), Pistoia and Pisa (90 km), Lucca (100 km) and a few maritime locations )80 km). San Gimignano, which is only 3 km from the house, is unique in the disposition of its architecture; it is small, concentrated and noble, a medieval town characterized by its old towers which attract tourists from all over the world. Siena, situated in the sweet hills, can be seen in all of her beauty, articulated by narrow streets, small towns and large plazas. It is commonly known by foreigners for the Palio (the horse race in the Piazza del Campo), the one great occasion where the old rivalries between neighbourhoods are brought back to life. Florence is the jewel of Tuscany: cradle of museums, works of art, historic buildings and a charm that can be captivated from the Piazzale Michelangelo, an enormous panoramic from the balcony that embraces the entire city. Voltaire, small like San Gimignano and suggestive for her beauty enclosed within the old wall, this town is famous for the quarries of alabaster, which have always represented her wealth, and for the archeological remains which date back to the Etruscan era. Montepulciano appears to be a medieval town to her visitors: a collection of buildings made up of stone and brick, situated in the summit of the rocky hill called Il Sasso. It is very famous for its wine, the Nobile di Montepulciano, known as one of the most prestigious and solicited wines of the area, maintained in wineries which can be visited, excavated without ventilation. Pisa is situated 13km from the sea, an ample plain protected by the Monte Serra. It is famous for the leaning tower and for the Piazza dei Miracoli, where you can visit the beautiful Duomo, the Battistero and the Camposanto Monumentale. Pienza is the miniature model of a renaissance city, which due to unfortunate historic circumstances has never developed. The countryside surrounding the city is equally suggestive. The apartment is comprised of a living room with a kitchen which includes a double sofa bed, a small bedroom with two single beds, one bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with a shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything necessary, and outside there is an ample space with a table, chairs and umbrellas so that you can enjoy some time in the fresh air. There is independent access, independent heating (paid based on consumption), corner to cook and satellite television. Everything is simply furnished, but with lots of charm. The apartment has a clothes hanger, iron and ironing table, and the sheets and towels are included. The washing machine is also available for our guests free of charge. There is a large parking space, an umbrella and deck chairs for the pool and a barbeque in the community garden. A mountain bike and a babysitter can be arranged upon request

Location Description

San Gimignano is a Tuscan town of seven thousand inhabitants situated in the province of Siena. It is located at the top of a typical Tuscan hill and is recognizable from a distance of several kilometres thanks to its characteristic towers, which stand out in the profile of the neighbourhood. To enter San Gimignano is like travelling in time; the characteristic medieval architecture, the labyrinth of small streets, the stone buildings and panoramic views of Siena's fields are simply a spectacle for the eyes and heart of any visitor. During the Middle Ages the people of San Gimignano had an epoch of great development due to the trade of high-quality agricultural products from the Tuscan hills. The pride of the wealthy families was the foundation for the construction of 72 towers in the town hall, each competing in height to earn the most prestige (today 15 remain). Furthermore, many of the most valuble works of art from the era were rescued from the churches and lounges of the most important families. This period of wealth was interrupted in 1348 by the epidemic that shook all of Europe and damaged all the activities and trades, condemning the village to a period of poverty and anonymity. After the year 1800, the beauty and distinctiveness of San Gimignano were, thankfully, rediscovered and the town preserves its medieval buildings intact. San Gimignano became a holiday destination, and UNESCO declared the town a patrimony of humanity in 1990, subsequently increasing its world reputation. Among the most important places to visit are the Palazzo Comunale, which holds the civic museum and the art gallery with masterpieces of Italian art; Dante's room with the Maestá, the Tower of Podestá from 1311; the Chiesa di Sant'Agostino; the Cappella di Saint Bartolo; and the Museum of Tortures, which preserves and demonstrates the skills and instruments of medieval torture. A stay in San Gimignano is an ideal occasion to savour the culinary specialities of the Tuscan tradition, such as delicious meats and renowned wines produced from the grapevines of the surrounding hills. The town is full of inns, taverns and pizzerias with a friendly climate making a cosy and unforgettable experience.
